Imagine exploring coral reefs or the surface of Mars in an afternoon. With Expeditions, The Ferns Academy took students on immersive, virtual journeys relating to their current curriculum areas.
With Google Expeditions, students took field trips right from their classroom. Expeditions allowed a teacher acting as a “guide” to lead classroom-sized groups of “explorers” through collections of 360° and 3D images while pointing out interesting sights along the way.
Liane started the day with a comprehensive teaching session that allowed teachers to easily manoeuvre the app and experience what the children would throughout the day.
Year 6 explored habitats from around the world. Discussed what would survive in these environments and what adaptations local wildlife would need to survive another day.
Year 5 blasted off into the solar system to experience the vastness of space. They couldn’t believe how much larger the other planets were in comparison to our own. “We are extremely small, I feel like an ant.”
Year 4 experienced what it would feel like to explore space, they walked on the moon and explored different planets. This allowed them to compare Earth to other planets in the solar system. They also went swimming deep into the ocean and learnt all about different animals.
Year 3 were able to view volcanoes from within and experience a 360 degree view of its surroundings. “Wow! I never thought I’d get to see a real volcano.” Jorja excitedly announced! They even got to compare volcanoes on other planets in our solar system. They were much larger and more catastrophic.
Year 2 travelled around ancient medieval castles, exploring the killing grounds and drawbridge areas. Gasps of excitement could be heard from every child. They even had a surprise visit from Father Christmas…exciting!
Year 1 dived into the deepest depths of the Earth’s oceans. Turning 360 to find the creatures that live there. They didn’t realise how colourful and large the ocean really was. They can’t wait to study this in the Summer Term.
Every child in school received a FREE Expeditions journal which explains how you can get involved at home.
